Debilitating fatigue occurs in the majority of patients battling cancer. So, it is nice to hear about research utilizing the benefits of Chinese herbs to relieve exhaustion among the sufferers of this disease.
In this recent study, 340 patients who were undergoing or had completed treatment for cancer received a placebo or 2000 milligrams of American Ginseng for two months. At the end of the two months, the group that had received Ginseng reported a significant improvement in their energy levels. No side effects were reported and Dr. Barton (the lead researcher) said, “After eight weeks, we saw a 20-point improvement in fatigue in cancer patients, measured on a 100-point, standardized fatigue scale.”
Ginseng is considered a king among herbs and Traditional Chinese Medicine has used it for thousands of years. Ginseng is known to increase energy and has been shown to have many other beneficial effects including enhancing physical and mental performance, stimulating the immune system, and combating stress.
