Acupuncture Offers Long Term Pain Relief For Migraine Sufferers

A study recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) shows long term pain relief for migraine sufferers.

This study had 249 participants who regularly suffered migraines without aura. They were divided into 3 groups: *true acupuncture *sham acupuncture and *a control group.

The participants kept diaries to record how often they had migraines. While the acupuncture treatment took place over 4 weeks the patients were tracked for 20 more weeks to evaluate the long term effects.

The result was a significant change in the frequency of migraines in the true acupuncture group.

This is not the first study to provide proof of acupuncture’s efficacy for migraines, not to mention it’s benefits for pain relief in general. Read this post for more research on acupuncture’s effectiveness at relieving pain.

As far back as 2008 Duke University sent out a press release that stated, Acupuncture is more effective than medication in reducing the severity and frequency of chronic headaches”

Acupuncture has also been recommended as a viable treatment for chronic headaches by the National Institutes of Health for several years.
